India urges its citizens to examine relevant factors before undertaking visit to Sri Lanka

India on Thursday urged its nationals planning to visit Sri Lanka to exercise caution and especially called on them to consider factors like currency convertibility and the fuel situation in that country before undertaking any essential travel.

"We have been following the developments there. Our understanding is that Indians are still the largest source of tourists for Sri Lanka," external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

As regards to the travel of Indians to Sri lanka in the current situation, let me emphasise that safety and well being of Indian nationals during their stay outside India including in Sri Lanka in this particular case, is always of prime interest to us," he said.

Bagchi was replying to a question on the issue during his weekly media briefing.

"Our endeavour is to prevent any untoward incidents involving Indians outside India...we would, therefore, encourage Indians to exercise all care and caution while in Sri Lanka.

"They should examine all relevant factors including currency convertibility and the fuel situation before undertaking any essential travel to Sri Lanka," Bagchi added.(TOI)

More tourist are coming from India now after the crisis .It is a big boost to the economy . If there is a reduction in the number will affect the Sri Lankan economy very much. USA and UK people are spending more but they are less in numbers now . There is a huge Middle class and Ritch Elite now are travelling to maldives from india and spent very high amount of money there .Indians are one of the most visited tourist in Maldives .If the Sri Lankan govt could attract that people to our county It will a boom for the Tourism economy

Indian think Lanka is like another part of Southern India, Tamil Nadu, but cheaper price. They will not spend because they behave like they are in their own country. Western country person has far more money on hand, and usually only come to tropics to thoroughly enjoy, including spending for lavishly for their comfort. The Indian tourist is no value to us.

If you guys so dislike Indians and feel indian tourists aren't important, why accept indian credit lines, free medicines, food, grants etc. Post that allows chinese spy ship to doc for 7 days, for .. refuelling!! Major countries guard themselves against such incursions as much as possible. Indian tourism industry and our 5* hotels survived only because of Indians traveling in India during pandemic. some hoteliers who were handling only Europeans or American business were so happy with the kind of revenue they generated from Indians.....Indians splurge on liquor and they want to do full party on holidays. This is excellent business for hoteliers. Whereas Europeans or Americans or Chinese are happy with a glass of wine or a beer. Please get the facts right....

In comparatively visitors from the region may spent less compared to European. But every visitor is important to SL. We warmly welcomed our Indian brothers. Most of the European countries lifting the travel advisory to Sri Lanka. We have passed most difficult period. In such situation why Indian authority released this type of advisory. I think thats hurts some extremist Sri Lankans.
