The Education Ministry has said not to make any changes in the dress code of the teachers and children.

While attending the Innovation Exhibition held at Vivekananda Vidyalaya as the chief guest, Minister Premajayantha said as the school system depends on the discipline of 420,000 children as the child follows the principal and the teacher, the Education Ministry does not wish to make any changes in the attires worn by the teachers and children in those schools, the Minister said.

“Our culture has not been changed based on the concepts of other countries and the West,” he said.

"The Maha Sangha, Hindu, Muslim religious leaders, elders, academics, alumni associations and development societies, after seeing a story published in a newspaper, requested him personally to not make any changes to the cultural identity," he said.

“I believe that 99% of our teachers do not agree to change this dress. We wear our usual clothes. Let's keep our culture. Let's make our children disciplined in school,” he said.

“We should not work according to an agenda others want, even though some people are trying to change the culture, the Ministry of Education is not making any changes in the teachers' clothes,” he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

What do outdated British school uniforms have to do with Sri Lankan culture? Just as little as the white nightgowns that many politicians wear, even abroad. The times of forcing teachers to wear a certain style of dress is not even constitutional. Susil Premajayantha is a man who, like the crooks in orange, wants to turn back time into a great culture. However, this culture was not so great, but marked by wars and violence. It is because of such idiotic men, who live in a long past time and want to force others to do the same, that Sri Lanka does not arrive at a better and modern future.

Corrupt failed culture. White clothing for daily wear for children, again thoroughly impractical. All those religious groups who support it are part of the culprits who cause hunger in our nation.

Country is in crisis, why change any uniform, no new changes required, what is necessary is to make avaliable the essential to the masses, again a fuel, gas shortages seen, not a healthy development.

This interim temporary government hasn't understood the priorities. This Minister is in another world. There are more burning issues to be resolved other than changing the dress code. Arrange some sanity wear to girls for free who have no means to buy them. These policies, changes work in contradiction

    Teacher Saturday, 05 November 2022 12:13 PM

Changing the dress of teachers and students to a more comfortable attire has nothing to do with the culture. Such idiotic advice is given by monks and frogs in the well! This is the type of idiots we have in our education system. Before you include AI in the curriculum, sort out these simple things first.

Max huawei Saturday, 05 November 2022 01:11 PM

Please change the education system of our country. The children of our country are depressed because of this education system.

Thomas Pieters Saturday, 05 November 2022 02:00 PM

In a free society, why not let teachers themselves decide how and what to dress and where they feel comfortable in ..

Shelly Belly Saturday, 05 November 2022 03:26 PM

Narrow-minded thinking. The uniform has nothing to do with culture. How many poor students from rural areas skip school or have committed suicide because their only uniform got damaged or they couldn't afford a new one that fits? This is one reason US public schools don't mandate uniforms. Students can wear whatever they have and come to school with the focus of learning. The cost of fabric and sewing a new uniform every 6 months for a growing child which must be kept white as snow, puts a burden on the parents and children. Get your priorities in order.

    Ranmith Saturday, 05 November 2022 08:34 PM

    Idiot Sunday, 06 November 2022 12:02 PM

Let teachers and students come in decent comfortable attire and introduce a dress code. Simple as that! What an Idiotic education system we have clinging onto a damn culture which nobody eve cares anymore because it is bring forced on everyone. Is the traditional kandyan and Indian style sarees, exposing more than half the body of a woman, a decent attire?? Seriously this country's outlook has to change completely.
