Ravindu Sanka alias Booru Moona has been allegedly taken into custody by persons identifying them as police in front of Awissawella Magistrate’s court when he was on his way to surrender himself to court.

The suspect who is said to have been wanted for the recent spate of murders was taken into custody while he was on his way with a lawyer to surrender himself in court.

The police had stopped the vehicle right in front of the police post in the Awissawella Magistrate’s court where he was to surrender himself.

Counsel Chaminda Athukorale appearing on behalf of the suspect told court that there is an imminent danger to his life and that they fear he would be killed. He told court that his client has a right to life and wanted to surrender himself in court when the police had acted in the manner they did.

Awissawella Magistrate Janaka Samarasinghe made an order to immediately produce the suspect before the Magistrate’s court.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
