The Anti-corruption Bill , evolved in conformity with the UN Convention on Corruption has been sent to the Attorney General for clearance before presentation in Parliament for enactment, a Minister said today.

The Bill, if enacted by the House, will provide for the establishment of a fully fledged bribery commission with powers and autonomy to deal with corruption. It will have full time serving commissioners to carry out investigations. Also, the commission will have authority to examine declarations of assets and liabilities.

Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told Daily Mirror that all the UN provisions had been incorporated in it.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also envisaged the need to enact such a law to curb corruption for the implementation of its programme with Sri Lanka.

The UN Convention covers five main areas: preventive measures, criminalization and law enforcement, international cooperation, asset recovery, and technical assistance and information exchange.

The Convention covers many different forms of corruption, such as bribery, trading in influence, abuse of functions, and various acts of corruption in the private sector. (Kelum Bandara)

Ha Ha Ha! We need to thank the IMF for the tough stance they are taking before approving any funding to bailout Sri Lanka.

Who will keep watch of the fully fledged bribery commission, against bribery of it's members? Creating a judicial corruption commission should have happened long ago too.

Good move. Corruption is the root of all that we are undergoing in the country at the moment and sadly, some are still engaged in massive scams. Let’s see how this is debated in parliament, any opposition will be from those criminals dressed in white.

There are plenty of rules against bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka. You don't have to invent any new rules. Just implement them and you can see the country flourishing. Do you intend to commit HARAKIRI with the past and present Ali Babas and 225 cohorts still firmly seated at the summit? Countrymen are not the proverbial Cheennu with a plaited piggy tail!

If anti-corruption measures are properly implemented there should be plenty of wrongs found about Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe himself. Any of the public who votes for Rajapakshe next election is doing disservice to our nation.

Very good this nation need a change that will bring prosperity in the future. UN convention IMF must have a indipendent commission to participate in criminal investigations directly or indirectly to assure no influence are taken place. Today the intair generation suffer due to political influence and favours to get away with any kind of activities. Only solution if all this issues are fixed then country can progress for recovery process. The biggest Failure in our system
