The Petroleum Dealers’ Association (PDA) said that they requested the Power and Energy Minister to annul the fuel price revision announcement dates, which were fixed by the Ministry.

The co-secretary of the association, Kapila Naotunna said the dealers become confused when placing orders for fuel on the 1st and 15th of each month.

According to amendments made to fuel pricing formula, the fuel price revision is expected to take place on the 1st and 15th of every month as per the fluctuation of crude oil prices in the global market.

Earlier, the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) used to announce the fuel price revisions without pre-scheduling dates.

"There were no fuel shortages reported before these scheduled dates, and therefore the dealers place their orders continuously without knowing the revision dates."

However, it was reported that the CPSTL did not permit the fuel bowsers to leave their premises without settling the revised prices in full on the fixed dates of fuel revisions. They practice that to make the ministry aware of the profit they receive, the association charged.

Therefore, the association requested that the minister annul the fuel revision dates.

They said the minister also confirmed their request and told the Ministey to take appropriate action to cancel the fuel price revision schedule. (Chathuranga Samarawickrama)

Petroleum Dealers’ should be allowed to set petrol prices as they like, like in democratic western country. The consumer will go to station that is best value for them. Or government can have their CeyPetCo owned stations sell as given price, while letting the private owner do as they want to. Competition will arise, and the supply and demand balance will bring about a sustainable outcome.

The Govt should focus on arresting and freezing the assets of crooks like Sajad Mawzoon, Thilini and former BOC Chairman Gamini Wickramasinghe who have robbed the country, rather than taxing the public. We are not broke. Sri Lanka's economy was plundered by such people

You forget about the current CB governor? He's fixed the exchange rate, making it stupid for Middle East worker to send through their saving in Middle East. They'll wait until 2024 rather than get 50% less value for their earnings. Also the lack of being able to send out dollars is another problem. Even EU delegations previous years wanted that changed to allow unrestricted outflow. It's Central Bank and excessive controls that have ruined our economy.
