SLPP, CWC to hold 11 LG bodies together

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will govern 11 local government bodies in Nuwara-Eliya District together with the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC), SLPP MP C. B. Rathnayake said today.

President to make changes to Govt. soon

President Maithripala Sirisena was expected to make a few changes to the Government in the near future, UPFA Secretary Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told the Daily Mirror.

SLFP secures Polonnaruwa MC

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by President Maithripala Sirisena was able to secure the Polonnaruwa Municipal Council with 9,020 votes and five seats. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) garnered 5,530 votes and three council seats. The United National Party (UNP) won two seats.  

UNP remains undefeated in Colombo MC

The United National Party (UNP) continued to hold power of the Colombo Municipal Council obtaining a majority of 131,353 votes with 60 council seats.The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) garnered 60,087 votes along with 23 seats.  

Govt. has no option but to resign: JO

Joint Opposition (JO) leader Dinesh Gunawardane said today the mandate given to the Government leaders at the previous election had expired with the results of the Local Government elections.

SLPP wins Kaduwela MC

The SLPP won the Kaduwela Municipal Council securing 26 seats with 71016 votes. 

Wattala-Mabole UC goes to UNP

The UNP won the Wattala-Mabole Urban Council securing 10 seats with 8767 votes. 

Sri J’pura – Kotte MC goes to SLPP

The SLPP secured a majority of votes for the Sri Jayawardanepura – Kotte Municipal Council securing 18 seats with 22068 votes. 

UNP wins Haputale PS

The UNP won the Haputale Pradeshiya Sabha garnering 9,746 votes and 7 seats. The SLPP has secured 8,375 votes along with 6 seats. The UPFA which secured 8,164 votes has also won 6 seats.

Update: SLPP heading for poll victory

Based on the election results released so far, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is heading towards a victory at the Local Government election garnering 45 per cent of the majority votes.

SLPP wins Ambalangoda PS

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) secured 6,698 votes along with 10 seats of the Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, the election results released by the Elections Commission said.

LG Polls -2018; first result released

First official result of the Local Government Election – 2018 has been released a short while ago. Results of Manthai East Pradeshiya Sabha, Mullaitivu district have been released. Accordingly, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has obtained 1836 votes while UNP has obtained 1505 votes

65% voter turnout at today’s election: EC

The overall voter turnout at today’s Local Government election was reported as 65 per cent, Commissioner General of elections R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said.

Voter turnout as at 4.00 p.m.

Over 70 per cent of voter turnout was reported in most districts by 4.00 p.m. today, returning officers in the respective districts said.

Election law violations: 11 arrested

At least eleven people were arrested for election law violations in several areas including Kochchikade, Uhana, Pujapitiya, Welikada and Kanthale this morning, Police said.
