Use yellow flag not Buddhist flag for Dansalas
Buddhist Affairs Commissioner Chandraprema Gamage has asked those who orgainise dansalas to use a yellow flag for the purpose of inviting the people for meals during the Vesak festival.He said he had received information that several organisations and individuals were collecting funds on the pretext of orgainsing Dansalas during the Vesak festival and that in many instances these Dansalas were an insult to Buddhism and an annoyance to the people.
The Department of Buddhist Affairs, in consultation with the All Island Sasanarackshaka Mandala has formulated a series of guidelines to be followed by the organisers of Dansalas and other Vesak Day programmes.
- Dansalas should be organised under the guidance of the Chief Incumbents of the temples and with the knowledge of the Grama Niladharies of the respective areas.
- Contributions to fund the Dansalas should be collected on the direction of the Chief Incumbents of the temple and the Grama Niladharies.
- A yellow flag, instead of the Buddhist flag, should be used to call the public to the Dansala.
- All activities should be organised with a sense of Buddhist devotion.
- Programmes that include noisy music, incongruous songs, and horrible scenes should not be held. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
