UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka filing a writ application before the Court of Appeal today challenging the conduct of Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka.

In his application, Attanayake sought an interim order on the Commissioner of Elections to inform Court of any person or institution that refuses to obey and respect guidelines, measures and systems formulated and approved.

Atthanayake in his writ application also expressed his apprehension and dismay that the conduct of the Elections Commissioner and his contradictory statements that have been made by him from time to time has made him the laughing stock in the public eye.

At last - a sensible move. Why did they not challenge him immediately after the PE when he " revitalised " himself within 48 hours.

the commissioner was good before the Presidential Election but after that???????????? what happend God Knows.....

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 12:54 PM

Good move by UNP although it is bit too late. They should have done this soon after presidential election for his mysterious conduct and making rather funny statements in trying to fool the public

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 01:03 PM

    Court Martial him !.

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 01:20 PM

    This was long overdue.

Another disgrace and embarrasment to our SLanka n system..This Election Commission- er

The Commissioner of Elections should be impartial ... if he cannot perform his duties, it is better for him to retire, as mentioned just after the Presidential election.

    'Pau aney'...!

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 05:10 PM

Feel so sorry for the fate of this country!

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 05:30 PM

The UNP is very lethargic, in spite of having loads of lawyers. ... The DNA, in contrast, is very active in bringing court cases against the government.

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 05:48 PM

    Sensible move by the UNP.

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 08:47 PM

People will never again have faith in him ...

    Wednesday, 24 March 2010 11:03 PM

An irrational request, obviously born out of poliltical desperation!
