Two die after consuming liquor in Mirigama

A get-together among friends ended in tragedy at Pallewela, Mirigama when two people including the host died and two others hospitalised last night after consuming liquor, police said.

The two who were rushed to the Wathupitiwala Hospital were identified as policemen attached to the Mirigama police and served at the Pallewela police checkpoint.

Hospital sources said they had consumed the same deadly liquor and were currently receiving treatment at the ICU.

Police said the victims were identified as the host D.A. Nihal (57) and S.A. Sarathchandra (48).(DS)

45% of liquor consumed in this country is illicit hooch made by Moonshiners with political patronage. Every time excise tax on liquor is increased more hoochers turn to kasippu and other illicit hooch. What is interesting is the presence of Policemen at this hooch party. THIS MUST BE DUE TO HIGHLY POISONOUS METHANOL CALLED METHYL ALCOHOL, PROPANOL OR SOME OTHER STRONG RUBBER SOLVENT LIKE KETONES. THESE HAVE SIMILAR SMELL LIKE NORMAL ALCOHOL , ETHANOL.
