A sub inspector attached to the Colombo City Traffic Police Division was today ordered to be remanded till July 14 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate for allegedly stealing and selling iron barricades worth Rs.97,440 to a scrap iron dealer.
The Slave Island police who conducted investigations said the SI had sold the iron barricades belonging to the Police Department to a scrap iron dealer in Colombo 2.
However, three others including the scrap iron dealer who were allegedly involved in the transaction were also arrested by the Slave Island police and they were ordered to be released on bail.
However, the sub inspector was ordered to be remanded by Magistrate Thilina Gamage as he is alleged to have committed a punishable offence which comes under section 8(1) of the Public Property Act. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
