Thondaman harassed in India



Indian police had to escort Minister Arumugam Thondaman’s nephew Uva Provincial Councillor Senthil Thondaman who was on a visit to Thirunallar Temple in Pondicherry in Tamil Nadu, when a group of political activists tried to surround him on Saturday night, Indian media reports said.

Thondaman, was taking part in religious activities at a Temple in Pondicherry when he was surrounded by a group of around 20 Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi activists.

The group had demonstrated waving black flags, shouting slogans against the Sri Lankan government and the President, resulting in a tense situation in the vicinity of the temple, reports said.

It is said that police personnel had attempted to control the situation and was finally able to escort the Provincial Councillor out of the temple premises under heavy security.

The latest incident was reported weeks after Thirukumaran Nadesan, husband of Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa, was mobbed by a group of activists in Rameswaram.
