Health official of the Colombo North (Ragama) Teaching Hospital has launched a strike over the issue of midwifery training to the nurses and alleged arbitrary actions of the midwife service in the Hospital.
The Government Nursing Officers Association said some nursing officers had been hospitalised following a tense situation prevailed in the hospital this morning.
“The hospital has come to this situation today because the hospital administration and health authorities are not looking into the issue to provide a fair solution or to implement administrative regulations,” it said.
It was reported that about 1,000 employees including midwives and the minor staff had staged a demonstration.
Several complaints had been lodged in the Ragama Police on intimidations and attempted assault incidents.
A Police team had been deployed to provide security and to prevent any possible incidents of violence, hospital sources said.
