    Mevan Wednesday, 27 October 2010 07:24 PM

They are running at a loss because Ministers have appointed their corrupt henchmen to the Managements. It is these Ministers who should be called before the COPE

Naren Senaratna Wednesday, 27 October 2010 06:24 AM

I agree with you to an extent Shanil, however not all are bad. Many of the top people are well educated and have what it takes to get things back on track. Having said that, I would like to add that we need to bring in strict accountability at all levels where it is built into the culture of each establishment ... people who are at the top of most govt departments find themselves tied down to what's been passed on to them from years and years of rot that needs to be cleaned up ... perhaps workshops seminars and endless grilling into the heads of the lower echelons that they are performing a service and not there to waste public funds and time might be the way forward.

The enormous extensive, exclusive, extravagance trips overseas by respective ministers should be the main cause for this loss.

    Wasantha Wednesday, 27 October 2010 03:51 AM

Very simple answer to that Mr. Minister. Corruption of politicians who are above the general interest.

    JAMES Wednesday, 27 October 2010 03:07 AM

    He is in the parliament!!

Naren Senaratna Wednesday, 27 October 2010 02:36 AM

This should be done properly and with all seriousness unlike previously. If top shots are continuously put under a telescope and held responsible for their actions in their respective divisions and departments they will jolly-well perform at their best and in the interest of the country.

    sw Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:25 PM

Very good. Losses are mainly due to corruption and incompetency. This is the order of the day and nothing will change. Some of the guilty ones may now be in higher positions.

    winnie Wednesday, 27 October 2010 01:42 AM

Is there any other Fonseka supporters to be taken for task via the COPE

    ranjith Wednesday, 27 October 2010 01:42 AM

Smart Aleck Tuesday, 26 October 2010 11:37 PM

Yes, this is a real joke. DEW seems to be having MOSS or FUNGUS on his brain.

Shanil Samarakoon Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:49 PM

Identifying the problem is just the surface. Taking action to address it is what the country needs. A real sense of discipline and accountability. Pardon me if I remain doubtful with regard that happening here. Especially when it's common knowledge that the higher echelons of power are implicated in corruption.

    gona Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:45 PM

Civil servants the world over are only capable of wasting huge sums of money and running their corporations at a loss. Check out the UK, so why should SL be different?

    Dee Tuesday, 26 October 2010 04:46 PM

whoa! hold on, Hold On. You mean heads of all loss making commercial ventures? even ones who headed em in the past? Oh. Blimey!

game kolla Tuesday, 26 October 2010 03:13 PM

    This is another comedy act.

    silva Tuesday, 26 October 2010 03:03 PM

What happened to the previous COPE report that indicated several ruling politicians? This one will be in the same fate as before.

    Kamiss Tuesday, 26 October 2010 02:04 PM

Most welcome if it is exercised without fear or favour. The question is whether action will be taken against those politicians in the ruling party, if any are found guilty of fianancial mismanagement.

    shalE Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:49 PM

Everyone will say "We could have made great profits if it is not for the stupid minister's & Mr. 10% getting huge commissions"

    Ragu Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:28 PM
