SL to sign FTA with China before CHOGM

The government said today it is optimistic of signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China before November 2013.

Investment Promotions Minster Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena speaking at a Board of Investment (BOI) press conference today said that the government expects to sign the agreement before the commencement of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo, in November this year.(Dilina Kulathunga)

we already have a FTA with India. India Enjoys the benefits of it more than us. Sri Lankan exporters are facing difficulties when they try to export to India even under the FTA.

It is obvious that the Chinese, who seek "superpower status" are only interested in the value of the strategic location of Sri Lanka. The common man of Sri Lanka has no time or inclination to bother about this as he/she is struggling to exist. Conversely, of course the West must also be blamed because they chose to vilify, condemn and generally ignore the Rajapaksa government because of the diaspora vote. The only winner in the short term will be the Chinese.
