Pope Francis will visit the North during his visit to Sri Lanka next year, a spokesman from the Bishop’s House in Mannar said yesterday.
The spokesman said the delegation of the pope’s security personnel who are now in the island met the authorities of the Madhu shrine in Mannar yesterday.
The official administrator of the Madhu church Fr. Emaliyanus Pillai had also participated in the meeting. The pope is expected to visit the Madhu church during his visit to the country.
Fr. Emaliyanus Pillai confirmed that there was a meeting between the delegation from the Vatican who had come to arrange the visit and Cardinal Ranjith last afternoon. However he said the final decision on whether the pope would visit the Madhu Church and the North would be taken later.
Meanwhile Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith met Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday for a discussion regarding the visit. (Yohan Perera)
