Over one hundred postal employees have been suspended for various discrepancies in their transactions, Postmaster General M. K. B. Dissanayake told Daily Mirror online today

He added that the suspended employees include some officers in charge of sub post offices and postmen. Investigations have been commenced regarding these employees, the Postmaster General said

Meanwhile a work to rule campaign was launched by several postal unions at the Colombo Mail Exchange demanding that several officers who were interdicted for accepting over 6000 under priced transactions be reinstated.

The Postmaster General said that four employees were interdicted for accepting over 6000 under priced transactions. Investigations are under way regarding these transactions as well, Postmaster General Dissanayake said. (Daily Mirror online)

Do we actually need a postal service?
Now a days people hardly post a letter.Very seldom are letters are being written and sent.
All letters and parcels are either couriered or they are been
E-mailed.
I think SL Postal service is way behind the technology.

I hope the Postal Authorities will take more action, on those employees who STEEL letters & parcels, that come to SriLanka.
I have been a victim of this. Most the parcels which my friends send as gifts, have not been received. Over to you Postmaster General !

With modern technology I have got software problems,hardware problems,pirate problems,hacking problems...etc..etc..
My grandma use snail mail & she celebrated her 100th Birthday last week !.

Why can't they reactive the CCTV cameras installed. Nobody can't send any thing to Sri Lanka as they get lost.

How many letters had gone missing I really have lost track!! Saddest is when the letters my daughter write to her grandparents and relatives dont reach the intended addresses. Thanks to you postal workers, she had stopped sending anymore letters to Sri Lanka. And anyone would fully agree, no email or any other technology matches the wonderful feeling of receiving and reading a hand written letter.

I have been a victim of loosing even registered letters and parcels. There were instances where only the empty envelope was delivered with clear tampering signs.
