Nine arrested over K’nawa attack

Police have arrested 9 people for their involvement in the attack on UNP Urban councilor Janaka Naulla and damaging 3 houses in Kolonnawa early this morning. They were presented in court and remanded till the 18th  of this month.

The gang had used iron clubs to carry out the attack. UNP Urban councilor Janaka Naulla was severely inured in the attack and had been reported to have sustained critical head and abdominal injuries.

His wife Inoka Kumudani told Daily Mirror online that the attackers had even threatened to set fire to her and her children. 

The attack is believed to have been prompted after councilor Janka Naulla organized a presidential election rally for General Sarath Fonseka in the Kollonnawa area last evening.
UNP urban council member Chithra Dias’s residence and Provincial Council member K. A. Sunil residence was also attacked.

Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
