Navy medics check Fonseka

Medical officers attended to General Sarath Fonseka today and maintained that his health condition has not deteriorated as alleged by his wife Anoma Fonseka and the General continues to get the best medical treatment, the army said today.

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) said yesterday that the government is attempting to kill detained General by allowing him to die of natural causes and by not providing him medical treatment.

However the army said that medical officers attending to General Sarath Fonseka, who is currently detained at Navy Headquarters have maintained that his health condition has not deteriorated.

“The Army on its part has provided the medical services to him on a regular basis and round the clock since he continues to remain under Army care. No such complaint of sickness has been made by General Fonseka to this date, nor has any observation to that effect been made by the Navy Medical Officer in attendance,” the army said.

The army added that in addition to the 24 hour medical services, the services of any medical specialist have also been made available to General Fonseka as and when required.

The army further said that in the early hours of today, the detained General received thorough medical attention from the Navy Medical Officer in his attendance and a medical specialist in the presence of Anoma Fonseka.

“The Army reiterates that it is prepared to provide him with the best medical care at all times,” the army said. (Daily Mirror online)
