The Motor Traffic Department said it had collected about Rs.250 million from the special vehicle registrations introduced recently.
The new vehicle registration includes three English letters.
“The previous registration had two English letters. New systems include three English letters starting with CAA. The CAA category has already been booked and so are the first 3000 numbers in the CAB category,” Commissioner General of Motor Traffic S.H. Harishchandra said.
He said some 15 to 20 vehicles were usually being registered a a day providing an income of Rs.70,000 on a single registration.
Mr. Harishchandra said about 30,000 vehicles are being registered a a month.
“That includes about 3,000 motor vehicles and about 5,000 motorbikes,” he said and added that the Department was making arrangements to introduce the new registration system for three-wheelers and also for motor bikes in future. (Video and Tex by Sanath Desmond)
