An organization calling itself the ‘People’s Wall of Comradeship’ (PWC) which includes members of the JVP today said the authorities were constructing Military Camps in the Northern Province and focusing on militarisation instead of establishing democracy in the region.| Video by Sanath Desmond |
They said about 6000 acres lands of the Northern people had been acquired by the military forces and alleged Minister Douglas Devananda’s supporters of getting hold on to a land illegally in Jaffna.
PWC Co-Convener Sunil Handunnetti said people of all communities were facing difficulties because their lands were being controlled by the military and said several check points had been erected along the A-9 road recently.
He further said there were much prominent issues in the northern province that required the attention rather than the 13th Amendment.
“The issues arising from internally displaced people, missing people, low income, unemployment, human rights violations, lack of Tamil speaking state officers and low basic facilities should be resolved before a political solution,” he said.
“Everyone keeps bantering about the 13th Amendment. Some people want to devolve the power, while the rest want to embrace it. But nothing was done for the people in the North,” he said.
He said those who support the Police and Land powers issue in the 13th Amendment only want to control northern people just as the rest without solving their problems. (By Sanath Desmond)

Sri Lanka needs to have major military camps in all provinces to
maintain the Security of the country. Why shod it exempt North from this requirement?
JVP & TNA members which are both former Terrorist with sheep clothing are not happy with this, as they cannot play their game freely.

Listen we are not opposing military camps but we need to have fair representation. Do you have military camp 100% Tamil police / army in south? why it take so long to give enough representation ?

Three is a saying that is much in vogue in Democratic nations "in order to ensure peace one must be prepared for war" the establishment of military camps in Jaffna should be welcomed as a security presence by those Tamils who are not affiliated with LITE and only a threat to those connected to a movement for the creation of Eelam. The world's greatest military is in a Democracy called the USA
