Matara students protest

Students of the Ruhunu university in Matara staged a ‘sit down’ protest in the Matara town this morning amidst a strong police and army presence, against the death of a university student.

The students had staged the walk towards the Matara bus stand and had attempted to walk towards the Matara police station but were prevented from doing so by riot police and the army.

The students later staged a two hour ‘sit down’ protest near the Matara bus stand before dispersing. The students were protesting over the death of their fellow student allegedly killed after being assaulted by police last month. (Daily Mirror online)

Always there are two sides to the story. Police are wrong to hit students like animals, those who hit should be punished, but those students who act violently playing their part in others politcal agenda. They are there to get educated, but what they are doing is unacceptable.

These students are privileged to have "free education." They must be in the class, not on the road. Unfortunately, they are being manipulated by vulturous politicians, mainly the JVP.
