"Let’s deal with it in Puttlam!"

Government MP Arundika Fernando, raising a question of privilege in Parliament today, said that he was threatened by UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara on Tuesday, and therefore he feared for his life.

The two members who are from the Puttlam District got involved in a physical brawl in which Mr. Fernando allegedly dealt a blow at Mr. Bandara in the face. Mr. Fernando had become furious after Mr. Bandara made some remarks involving his personal relationships.

After the incident, Mr. Bandara also raised a question of privilege on Tuesday saying that he sustained minor injuries after the assault.

However, in yesterday’s question of privilege, Mr. Fernando said that Mr. Bandara threatened him saying, “Let’s deal with it in Puttlam!” (Api Puttalamedi Balagamu).

“Now I am under threat.  Therefore, my security has to be looked into,” he said.

Also, the Government MP said that his colleagues Shanta Bandara and J.R.P. Suriyapperuma were present beside him by the time the UNP MP made this threat. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
