Police attempt to search JVP HQ

The police had attempted to search the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) headquarters located in Pelawatte earlier today but had been unable to do so as they had not produced a court warrant for it, JVP member Vijitha Herath told Daily Mirror online.

Former MP Herath told Daily Mirror online that a team of policemen had arrived at the party headquarters and wanted to search the premises but had been told by party members that they would have to bring with them a court warrant to do so.

He explained that he was no longer at the party premises but said that a number of policemen had been stationed outside the premises, waiting for more policemen to return with a court warrent to search for ‘mud-slinging posters’.

Meanwhile Police Spokesman SP Preshanth Jayakody when contacted by Daily Mirror online said that no such search was being conducted by the police on the JVP party headquarters. (RR)
