The UNP charged today that the government, in a desperate bid to increase its tax revenue, had introduced new legislation to set up gaming centres wherever possible.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference today that the government had reintroduced the Gaming (Special Provisions) Bill in Parliament to be passed next week.

He added that the proposed Bill would give powers to the subject minister to give permission to anyone to open gaming and betting centres in the areas determined by him. (KB)

Gaming does no good to common people; It only put more financial burdens on house wives. The end result will be more house maids for Arab countries. This is a crime!.

Mr.Tissa has forgotten the past.It's in the era of UNP government that introduced,On line sweeps,and Mahapola,that was funded by Lottery board,and the other by the Mahapola scolarship fund with collaboration with a Norwegian company,which has to close down later loosing millions of money from both the investors.The legislation were passed with the objection of lottery agents island wide.and also the jackpot machine,introduced after passing a bill in the parliament,which later abolished by late president Premadasa.
