Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka is to quit as Elections Chief following the conclusion of the Presidential Elections next week.
The Elections Commissioner had told political party representatives a short while ago that he will resign as none of his recommendations have been followed by the political parties contesting the polls next week, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told reporters.
The Elections Commissioner also told political party representatives that the competent authority appointed by him to oversee the conduct of the State media has been withdrawn as he failed to carry out his duties properly. (ISA and SMD)

Quitting, is a cowardly act by the EC! When he has all the power he needs (the police, the forces, the courts, etc.) but yet, gives-in to thuggery and intransigence, he is only aiding and abetting those who are preventing a fair election!

Hi - Your directives to the Political Parties are Administrative directives. If they failed to carry out your directives you can get relief from the Supreme Court of "Sri Lanka". What about Mandamus/Certiorari/Injunctions/Interim Orders etc. and as a last resort HELP OF THE UNDERWORLD, a quick way to resolve problems.!!! nihalg

This man is not fit to hold the post, any longer. He cannot even impose the Election Law. In the least, he should have had the courage to make known the persons who hindered him, in the proper exercise of his duties!

He has tried everytime to conduct elections in a fair manner. At the end of each election he tried to convince all the parties to make a change in the system. No one took heed, but when an election comes they start complaining. Our opposition, for a whole of 5 years sits in parliament like impotent mules and complain like babies at the end. What ever happened to opposing methods like mass agitations and strikes, atleast for good reasons other than for hunger of power? Does it have to be an election to make a difference?
