Drunken husband kills wife over denim trouser

A highly intoxicated husband, seeing his wife dressed in a Denim trouser is alleged to have lost his temper and assaulted her with an iron pole killing her on the spot, Police said.

The victim was identified as Sembakutti Arachchilage Tharanga Niroshani Kumari Munasinghe alias Amila, a mother of two children residing at Temple Road in Uyanwatte, Muthugala.

Because of regular quarrels between the husband and wife, the neighbours had ignored this incident as well. At the time of the tragedy the younger daughter had been present while the other daughter had been under probation care over an earlier incident.

The husband has been arrested by the Giriulla police.

Acting Kuliyapitiya Magistrate had held the magisterial inquiry and the body referred to the the Dambadeniya Hospital for the post-examination. (Dinesh Upendra)

Being intoxicated and "murdering" people has become a mere joke in our country. Eradication of alcohol will restrict these kind of happenings. But is it alone enough? The blood tie love and care should be prioritised, govt should take actions in these kinds of situations because this unnatural behaviour just made two kids "mother-less" and they will be handed over to the killer of their mother once again.
