Cops interdicted over assault



Two police officers who were allegedly involved in an assault on a man at the Angulana police station this week have been interdicted over the incident. Another police officer has been exonerated over his involvement in the incident.

Residents of the area staged a protest in front of the police station on Monday alleging a youth who was taken in was assaulted while in custody. The youth was subsequently admitted to a hospital. A police constable of the Angulana police station had on Monday taken a youth into custody over his failure to produce the National Identity Card. In a subsequent altercation the police officers had allegedly assaulted the youth.

The OIC had released him on police bail. He had later got himself admitted to the Lunawa Hospital from where he had been transferred to Kalubowila hospital. (AW)
