The National Transport Commission has introduced a new colour scheme to easily identify bus routes and the service level on inter-provincial bus routes.
NTC Director General G.A.S. Ganepola said passengers find it difficult to identify the different destination boards as they were all displayed in maroon and yellow.
“Buses will be identified as belonging to one of the four categories as follows – normal in yellow; semi-luxury in blue; luxury in green and super luxury in purple. People find it confusing when having to identify the semi-luxury buses from the normal buses,” he said.
Mr. Ganepola said the bus fare would also vary according to the level of service provided.
“The fares for super luxury buses will be three times that of the normal fare while the fare for luxury buses will be double the normal fare,” he said.

What do you get in "super luxury"? Videos at each seat? Short eats and tea at 4 o'clock?

Colour coding itself is not enough: what guarantees are there for the passengers once they get in that they get the service for which he pays - double or treble?

colour coding is a good idea. but as mentioned in this comment thread, the clear description of the different levels of service should be made public. i honestly have no idea what the super luxary has to offer? do some not stop at all the bus stops? do some only take seating passengers? etc etc. as far as codes of ethics etc goes, it's not something the SLTB can do, it's something we need to improve with education as this isn't a unique problem to the transport industry.

Yes Color codes are good but more important factor is code of ethics for the Drivers and Bus Conductors better to have institutions which give some standard training on being a conductor and driver in passenger services and those who have the certification can operate bus services...

Government should implement the code of conduct for harshly driving buses. Oh yeah by the way Thanks for notifying the colors so we will not get into those so called luxury service.. Most of the SL commuters are already suffering from high transportation costs.

It would be also better if the NTC reveals what service standards the passengers can expect from each type of bus. What may happen otherwise, is that the passenger may get in to a Super Luxury bus and pay the fee, but the quality / comfort of the journey will not be too far off from the normal travel. For example in long distance buses in some other countries, the bus can have only three seats in a row (seperated) and the seat can be reclined.
