The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) today warned of the rising amount of commercial sexual exploitation rackets involving children following the speedy boost in tourism in the country

The NCPA added that it will continue to grow in the coming years if measures are not taken to nab the racketeers.

NCPA Chairman Mrs. Anoma Dissanayake speaking to Daily Mirror Online said that based on the surveillance they have carried out so far, they have strong reasons to believe that the rackets have already raised its’ heads and are continuing to increase.

“We informed the then IGP Mahinda Balasuriya regarding our concerns but we have not received any response to our warnings yet. However we are on the alert and are on the lookout for such rackets,” she said.

Mrs. Dissanayake added that as the NCPA does not have the manpower to monitor and carry out surveillance throughout the country, they have sought the assistance of various NGOs, provincial authorities as well as the Police to carry out surveillance programs.  (Lakna Paranamanna)

Thank you DM for constantly alerting the public of this very precious yet extremely vulnerable segment of our society.
How sad. Hardly anyone will even click to check this news item. Unlike for other gossip or rubbish. Sadder still of the inactivity of the Police. I could honestly cry for these children.

This is what is wrong with this country. When something starts going right in our nation, something awful like this will follow. I hope the authorities do something soon to make this stop.

Few years back, a German guest gave me a magazine published for tourists, in that SL was second top of child prostitution first being the Phillipnes. We have Interlectuals, Policy makers, Authories for various social matters and the Police, but no one seem to aware whats happening under your roof. We have ministries for everything but no one know what their function is.
