Cab collides with group of dancers in Katina Perahera; one killed

One person was killed and three other injured when a speeding cab had crashed with a group of dancers who were performing at a Katina Perahera at Weediyawatta in Gampaha on the Colombo-Kandy main road this afternoon.

Police said the dancers were participating at the Katina Perahera in Keselwathugoda Rajamaha Viharaya in Gampaha when the cab travelling towards Kandy had crashed with the dancers.

The injured were rushed to the Gampaha Hospital and 26-year-old, a resident of Kadawatha had succumbed to injuries upon admission.

Police said three injured persons who were who were in critical condition had been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital. Gampaha police are conducting investigations.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
