Woman arrested for attempting to smuggle e-cigarettes at BIA



Colombo,January 13 (Daily Mirror)- A 32 years old woman was arrested yesterday for smuggling foreign electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) worth Rs.6 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by officers attached to the Police Narcotics Division.

The suspect, a resident of the Namupamunuwa area in Piliyandala, is working as a travel agent. 

She arrived at the BIA around 7 p.m yetsterday, on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-315 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the woman was carrying 455 e-cigarettes hidden in two baggages, which were discovered by the authorities.

The passenger who illegally brought the shipment of e-cigarettes into the country is scheduled to be produced before the officers at the Narcotic Sub Preventive Office in Naikanda today for further investigation.
