Colombo, Jan 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will not take notice of any restrictions but will take to the streets tomorrow and fire the first shot towards overthrowing the present government, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said today.
“The IGP or anyone else can impose any restriction but we will defy all laws and bring 50,000 people to Colombo tomorrow,” Madduma Bandara told a media briefing.
“It was the SJB which pioneered the uprising in 2022 and we intend to do the same this time as well,” Madduma Banadara added.
“We will not disclose where we will march towards now, but we will reveal it at the correct time tomorrow,” he added.
Former MP Hirunika Premachandra who also participated in the briefing said the protest will be against suppressive legislations such as the Anti-Terrorism Bill, Online Safety Bill and increased taxes.
“We will disclose where we are going to surround at the right time,” she also said

Without the backing from both sjb and jvp the aragalaya would have ended at the early stage. When government put curfew to stop escalating of anger by people, it was the sjb and jvp politicians who came out on curfew day and broke the barrier which helped the general public to come out too. You cannot single handedly do protests without the support from opposition parties. Reason is the security forces hesitate to arrest opposition parliamenterians in large numbers bcoz if the opposition party comes to power the officers will have hard time. We saw how it happened in past and how some officers had hard time.

Ordinary folk started the aragalay, then it was hijacked by the subversives and the nefarious characters from the slums of colombo. SJB wasn’t even around. The true faces of the aragalay activists (towards the end) who were pretty familiar with destructive mentality was clearly shown- then they were chased away! Now they are back to organizing protests in state university and loss making state entities! GROBR!

Is it a prudent decision to start a Aragalaya by bringing out the public onto the streets. The outcome would be that many people will get injured and some may lose their lives because the scales are tipping in favour of the government which is backed by the forces. In the past Aragalaya the sympathy by the forces was towards the public because it was a crisis time with the shortages of petrol, gas etc. and from what we seen the forces took a neutral stand. Better judgement should prevail instead of acting like bulls in a china shop which will have detrimental effects. As there is a saying there is a TIME and PLACE with the correct mix of all affected public for everything !!!!!!!
