Colombo, May 17 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the government has incurred a massive loss through the selling of the state vehicles, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said he will lodge a complaint with the Bribery Commission over the matter.
The MP said the government incurred a massive loss by adopting a tender procedure without selling the vehicles in a public auction.
He said the government could have earned some Rs. 650 to 700 million if the vehicles had been sold in a public auction.
"They used a tender procedure without auctioning the vehicles. We hope to file a complaint with the Bribery Commission regarding the incident," he said.
The MP said it is reported that the government has earned only Rs. 200 million by selling 17 vehicles.

Both tenders and auctions are acceptable ways of selling public assets. It seems gov earned on average Rs110m for each of the 17 vehicles. According to Dayasiri the gov could have sold these at an average price if Rs38-41m. I doubt this given all theee vehicles were on average more than 15-20 years old and we don’t know the condition of these.

All these vehicle in running condition and even with potential repairs the price cannot go down more than half a million. For example just by selling four luxury vehices alone can get 20 crore. Here they have sold 17 luxry vehicles for just 20 crore where the loss for the government is more than 30 crore. So this is a major fraud and no doubt about it. All those responsible should be arrested immediately.

Of course public auction would have fetched more money. Tender procedure if not properly manged could lead to favouritism. With only realising Rs. 200Mit is doubtful whether proper tender procedures were flowed. Besides, Dayasiri 's claim going to Bribefy Commision would be futile without valid proof. How can an auction earn more than a tender? The Govt media release says vehicles were awarded to the highest bidders whose offers exceeded the government’s estimated valuation. However, in some cases, the bids received did not meet the government’s minimum valuation and so no sale. Also it claimed that all procedures related to this sale were carried out in accordance with the Asset Management Circular 05/2024. Good condition vehicles sold fetched : Rs.32M Rs.27M Rs18M Rs.14M Rs.13M and two at Rs.12M. Others dilapidated sold for less than 10M. Dayasiri return the money you got from Presidents Fund.

I know a couple of highend vehicles buying and selling guys. None of them were interested in this vehicles. They say few spare parts dealers are interested in betting. Some other spare parts dealers not sure whether original parts are already replaced with Chinese products. This MP is shouting without knowing the reality.

@Josua's moto is no matter shit happens, we are for Malimawa. Dayasiri has a point. This government will not be able to buy even 17 Indian made cheap vehicles at the prices they sold those high end vehicles. The buyers if these vehicles stand to gain 3 to 4 times of their investment by reselling these vehicles. At least a public auction as previously promised by NPP would have fetched 200 million more.

Brother Dayasiri, if they auctioned it as you suggest you would have still gone to the bribery commission. Now that they have done it through a tender that too is not good for you opposition types. Reeling from successive losses, hatred for the ruling party should stop. You need to hold the government accountable where they truly fail rather shooting them all over the place hoping that one bullet may hit them. By doing all of this nonsense you opposition types are wasting public money and time. So shut -up and start doing some real work that will help the country or let this government do its job.

This is the same person who took a big sum of money from the President Fund set to support the poor of Sri Lanka. He also reportedly received money from Rsjapakse to change sides. Listen, the Government has followed open and competitive bidding process to sell these vehicles above the Government valuation.
