Two top agri officials arrested for issuing fake certificates to release dried arecanut containers
An Assistant Agriculture Director and an Agriculture Instructor had been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for issuing fake quarantine certificates to release a consignment of dried arecanut from the customs last year.
Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said the Sri Lanka Customs has lodged the complaint with the CID.
Then the CID recorded several statements in this regard and the two officials were arrested accordingly.
SDIG Rohana said the officials had issued quarantine certificates without inspecting the containers physically.
Further investigations are underway to ascertain whether any others have involved with this incident. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
