Two teenaged boys drown while bathing in Matara beach

Two boys, both aged 17 years drowned in the Matara beach while bathing.

Police said four boys bathing in the sea were caught in an undercurrent and rescued where two of them died after being admitted to the hospital.

The deceased were residents of Akuressa.

It was reported they had come for a sea bath under the pretext that they were going to tuition classes.

Tragic. The school that teaches by experience can some times be the dearest. Too many youngsters in Sri Lanka, drown.

Why can't government start Lifeguard services across the country to watch over our beaches. I believe they even had large overseas donation to accomplish this once. They can easily hire young adults from coastal areas and train them in paramedic, search and rescue. same time I've never seen one signpost near a beach telling me its dangerous to swim or sharks there to eat you.
