Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - Two forest areas are to be declared as protected reserves today in connection with the ongoing “Walk for Peace” programme.

The declaration will be made through a Sannas Patra, which is scheduled to be presented to Venerable Pannyakara Thero of Vietnam and other dignitaries participating in the peace walk.

The forests identified for protection are Nagahamulayaya in the Matale District and Padavigampola in the Kegalle District.

Minister of Environment Dhammika Patabendi said the official handover of the Sannas Patra will take place this afternoon when the procession reaches the Beligammana Rajamaha Viharaya.

The walk, now in its third day, began at the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. Venerable Pannyakara Thero, along with members of the Maha Sangha, is expected to walk around 25 kilometres today as part of efforts to promote global peace and environmental awareness.
