Twelve districts identified as high risk for Leptospirosis: Nalinda

Colombo, Oct. 10 (Daily Mirror) - Twelve districts have been identified as high-risk areas for the spread of Leptospirosis in the country, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today.

Responding to a question by SJB MP Rohana Bandara, he told Parliament that Galle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matara, Hambantota, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa Badulla, Gampaha and Moneragala have been identified as high-risk areas for the spread of Leptospirosis.

The Minister said Doxycycline required to control the disease is amply available in the country and requested those who work within risk areas like paddy fields to take the medicine in time.

He said 10,000 Doxycycline tablets are required for a month and Doxycycline tablets required for three months are in stock right now and added that another stock required for nine months will be received soon.
