Colombo, Oct. 30 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanaga S. Bodaragama today commenced the examination of evidence in the case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department against former State Minister Diana Gamage, who is accused of submitting false information to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration in order to obtain a passport and remaining in Sri Lanka without a valid visa.
When the case was called, the charges were read out to the accused, Diana Gamage, who pleaded not guilty.The prosecution then recorded the evidence of Hansika Kumarasiri, a former officer of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, led by State Counsel Akila Dharmadhathuge.
The CID filed the case on the instructions of the Attorney General, charging the former State Minister under seven counts for offences committed under the Immigrants and Emigrants Act, alleging that between July 14, 2016 and November 1, 2020, she had remained in Sri Lanka without a valid visa and had provided false information to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to obtain a passport.
The Magistrate thereafter fixed the case for further examination of evidence on December 15.
