Train operations on the Batticaloa line resumes

The train services which was suspended on the Batticaloa railway line since this morning has resumed, the Railways Department said.

They said train services on the Batticaloa line was suspended temporarily, after it knocked down three elephants near the Hatares Kotuwa area between Habarana and Gal-Oya stations this morning.

The intercity train 'Pulathisi' which knocked the animals to death, derailed after the accident took place.

The repair work on the track which was conducted by the railways department has been completed and the track is ready for operations.

The locomotive and another carriage were derailed following the accident. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
