Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has issued a warning saying that showers and thundershowers are expected in many parts of the country after 1.00 p.m. today.
According to the forecast, some areas could receive fairly heavy rainfall of over 75 mm, especially in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Southern provinces.
Showers are also likely in coastal areas of the Southern Province and in the Kalutara District.
Early morning misty conditions are expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts.
At sea, thundershowers are likely in areas stretching from Kalutara to Batticaloa, passing Galle, Hambantota and Pottuvil. Other sea areas around the island may also experience isolated thundershowers.
Winds will be mainly from the south-east or variable, blowing at 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions are expected to remain generally slight, but strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur temporarily during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take precautions against possible damage from sudden strong winds, lightning, and heavy rain.
