TU action by GMOA continues as talks fail

Colombo, Nov. 17 (Daily Mirror) - The trade union action launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) continues, with discussions held with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake failing to produce a satisfactory outcome.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa told the Daily Mirror that while the President requested more time to address the issues raised, no concrete solution was offered.

From this morning, doctors in hospitals islandwide limited key services, including issuing prescriptions for medicines to be bought from external pharmacies and recommending laboratory tests to be conducted at private facilities.

The secretary said the trade union action stems from the government’s failure to address longstanding concerns in the health sector, including issues tied to next year’s budget proposals.
