Suspect who threatened motorists with machete remanded



Colombo, March 24 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect who allegedly behaved in a manner that posed a threat to vehicles and passengers travelling along the Millawana–Melsiripura road has been remanded in custody until March 31, after being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court.

Police said the suspect was arrested on March 22 by a team of officers from the Melsiripura Police Station for blocking the road while intoxicated and brandishing a machete, causing danger to motorists and passengers travelling through the area.

The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of the 50 Acres area within the Melsiripura Police Division, was taken into custody following the incident.

He was ordered to be remanded until March 31 after being produced before court today, police said.
