Suspect who raped and impregnated an underage girl arrested

Colombo, Nov. 11 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect who had raped and impregnated an underage girl and went into hiding was arrested yesterday after more than a year by Monaragala Division Crime Investigation Unit.

He was handed over to Wellawaya Police for further investigations.

The 25-year-old suspect was a resident of Amunuwelapitiya in Badulla. He had raped an underage girl and fled from the area when she was pregnant and found employment in a livestock farm in Guruthalawa.

Police had been conducting investigations since August 22, 2024, to arrest him on a complaint received from the victim.

He was to be produced before the Wellawaya magistrate yesterday.
