Suspect arrested in probe into murder of former Mulleriyawa PS Vice Chairman in 2022



Colombo, December 26 (Daily Mirror) - Police yesterday arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of a former Vice Chairman of the Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha in Kotikawatta.

The arrest was made by officers of the Western Province Southern District Crime Division following investigations into the incident, which was reported on August 2, 2022, near the Mulleriyawa Hospital within the Mulleriyawa Police Division.

According to police, information received during the investigation revealed that the suspect had acted as the motorcycle rider who transported those involved in the shooting. He was arrested yesterday (25) in the Talahena area of the Malabe Police Division.

At the time of arrest, police seized 05 grams and 430 milligrams of the narcotic drug Ice, along with a forged foreign passport.

The suspect is a 32-year-old resident of the Talahena area. Further inquiries revealed that two open warrants have been issued against him in connection with cases pending before the Colombo High Court.

The Western Province Southern District Crime Division is continuing further investigations into the incident.
