Stronger ground-level engagement needed for women and children, says Minister



Colombo, Oct. 19 (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Women and Child Affairs Hon. Saroja Savithri Paulraj has emphasized the need for stronger ground-level engagement to improve the lives of women and children in Sri Lanka, stating, “We must become even more active on the ground for the betterment of women and children in our country.”

The Minister made these remarks during a special discussion held on October 17 at the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat, aimed at reviewing the progress of ongoing projects related to the protection, economic and social empowerment of women, and the care and early childhood development of children in the district.

During the meeting, Minister Paulraj held in-depth discussions with officials about the challenges faced by women and children and the steps being taken by the Ministry to address these issues effectively.

The event was attended by North Central Province Governor Hon. Wasantha Jinasena, State Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply and Polonnaruwa District MP Hon. T. B. Sarath, Members of Parliament Hon. Sunil Rathnasiri and Hon. Padmasiri Bandara, Additional District Secretary Ms. Nirosha Hapuhinna, and field officers of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs in the Polonnaruwa District.
