State Ministry of Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Nimal Lanza said he had been hamstrung in the discharge of duties due to the impractical approach by Ministry Secretary Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake, and therefore he decided to stay away from ministerial duties.
Responding to speculation about his resignation from office, Mr. Lanza told Daily Mirror that he had been unable to discharge his ministerial duties for the benefit of the people because of the Ministry Secretary standing in his way.
“I am unable to work using allocations made to the ministry. The Secretary blocks me by citing various regulations which are impractical. They can never be implemented on the ground. Therefore, I asked all my staff members in the ministry to leave the ministry premises as there is no use of them being at the ministry with nothing else to do,” he said.
However, he said he was yet to submit his resignation.(Kelum Bandara)
