Colombo, Dec.24 (Daily Mirror) - SriLankan Airlines today extended apologies to customers affected by recent travel disruptions involving a series of cancellations and delays.
The airline faced challenges as two Airbus A330 aircraft were grounded for several days during this busy period. One aircraft required an extended check, with a part replacement delayed due to a global supply shortage. The other experienced a burst tire incident in Paris.
Simultaneously, delays in receiving two spare engines and a newly leased A320 aircraft further strained the operational fleet, leading to unavoidable flight cancellations and delays.
SriLankan Airlines acknowledges the inconvenience caused to passengers during the festive season and expresses regret for any disruption to travel plans.
The airline said they are working tirelessly to expedite travel arrangements for affected passengers.
Looking ahead, significant improvements are expected in the coming days. The recently leased A320 aircraft has already been incorporated into the fleet, and two A320s are set to return to service with replaced engines in the next week.
Additionally, a backup A330 from Air Belgium is scheduled to arrive this weekend, with the airline anticipating the return of both grounded aircraft.

Downsize the operation for now until all shortcomings are sorted out. If you go on like this, more customers will boycott the airline even after you get your act together. Remember, it’s difficult to get return customers after loosing them.

This is due to the mismanagement and misappropriation of the this institution. One time this was called Our national carrier unfortunately now this is the worst airline in the world. During last two decades. Ruthless politicians and their cronies sucked the extract of this esteemed institution which was one time treated as one of the best airlines in the Asia Normally If our relatives and friends are flying while seeing them off we say Safe and happy journey But if they travel by Air Lanka we can’t utter that

Airlines must always have a standby aircraft to fill in if any aircraft is unable to fly the same way as they have standby staff at all levels rostered. The time tables must be prepared keeping this in mind. When unfit people are in the top management these things happen

People will have second thoughts in flying with an airline which has aircrafts with replaced engines and revamped parts. Life is too precious to take that risk. No amount of money can compensate that. It is a shame that this airline came to that. I know specifically the Australian leg is popular and profitable.

Sri Lankan Supply chain disruptions from Covid onwards even now is nothing new. What’s needed is to make a good allowance time wise for delays. Wonder whether or not a case of too many cooks spoil the soup. As an expatriate Lankan, love to support the national carrier though do not take things for granted in this competitive world , if Sri Lankan wish to enhance the reputation.

Sri Lankan is the regularly cheapest airline to Sri Lanka right now. Being late or cancel is nothing compared to accident. All the safety if delay, or cancel is fine, because I rather fly safe than suffer doom with unsafe on time airline, which Sri Lankan could be if they try to be on time all the time.

It has become worse than our railways and CTB. Bad management and very unprofessional staff. Many staff manning the counter cannot even converse in English. Utter disgrace. Under the singaporeans Airlanka started very well, bad decision making by stupid politicians ruined the image and career.

Many factors contributing to the abysmal state. 1. From the moment an enterprise is brought under government, politicians load up all their supporters to superficial positions. 2. Like they do to all new buildings, neglect mandatory maintenance. 3. Lethargic attitude becomes the norm. 4. Corruption galore with contracted hotels and taxi companies.5. Immediately after the crook MR expelled the British CEO of SriLankan (Emirates), I switched to other airlines. And as it turns out, I did the right thing. SriLankan is now an expensive junk airline that cares more about the pimples of its stewardesses than about the maintenance of its planes.

All airlines including the highly reputable ones experience these things, which are beyond their control. The good news is that Sri Lankan airlines is one of the safest airlines in the world and they take safety very seriously. I have travelled on many other premium airlines and I know from experience that Sri Lankan pilots are highly skillful.

For every pilot there are probably 5 or more technical people who service Sri Lankan airlines planes. The safety is from the excellent world standard work done to ensure planes work well. Any delays are completely understandable with the good prices Sri lankan is finally offering again. I would rather face cancel than be on plane with great pilot but one which will fall out of the sky trying to be on time.

I did fly SriLankan Airlines in Nov/Dec 2023 to Sydney and back to LHR. FORTUNATELY everything was fine. Being a Sri Lankan we especially SBFs should support it.

One of my close relation travelled to his father's funeral and the time was set according to the flight landing and travel time to his town. Unfortunately flight was got delayed by 4 hours due to a technical issue which is a nightmare on every flight. And he misses his father's funeral. How dare the Srilankan airline management is. It is the height of folly to set funeral time based on public flight arrival time. Seven of my relatives missed going to their parents funerals during Covid lockdown. There were three deceased, and their children all overseas, but with quarantine cannot do anything on time. If your close relative so keen, he can get private plane directly to Sri Lanka from wherever he is, but if he's just another beggar man, expecting first class treatment, while paying only for ordinary man ticket, he is is a disgrace.

The problems with Sri Lankan all started because of Mahinda. It was operating profitability with foreign management. Locals not smart enough to run it profitability, but some idiot religious leaders talk racial nationalism about and Mahinda also wanted to be treated like a king of old. Mahinda in desperation for better personal treatment even created useless Mahinda/Mihin Air, which is really fault of public for voting him. They didn't learn lesson and even voted Gota afterwards.
