SriLankan Airlines flight turns back to Melbourne due to technical issue

Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - SriLankan Airlines said that that flight UL 605, en route from Melbourne to Colombo, safely returned to Melbourne Airport shortly after takeoff at 18:16hrs (Melbourne time) today, due to a technical issue.

All passengers onboard the flight disembarked safely following the return to the airport. A team of engineers is currently assessing the aircraft and providing necessary technical support to address the issue, the SriLankan said.

All passengers have been accommodated in hotels until the rescheduling of the flight for departure.

As previously mentioned sometime back, downsize the operations until newer aircraft are leased or purchased. Until than, it’s better to boycott the airline until drastic measures are taken. If not, the taxpayers are just supporting a dying company!

This is a technical fault. I also smelled the smoke while take off from melbourne 2nd friday. It's good that they turned back and repaired. This flight is flying to Melbourn and just within less than one hour it flies back to colombo. Sri Lankan is not bad! I love to fly again.

On 3rd February a flight to Sydney was first delayed owing to technical issues forcing the passengers to suffer for 7 hours in the miserable airport until it was finally cancelled. Much chaos within the ground staff. Foreign tourists were called from the back of the line and provided with alternative flights while Australians and New Zealanders of Sri Lankan origin who were at the front of the queue were forced to spend the night at a lousy hotel. Srilankan airlines truly sucks and everybody should be advised to never travel on this airline.

Totally agree with RIp Winkle, we had a similar experience with them for a different flight cancellation and they served the foreigners first while we were in front of the queue and rescheduled our flights with very short transit times. Also didn’t retag our bags properly to reach the final destination. We are still looking for our bags.

The stewardess burnt a piece of chicken in the oven and smoke entered the cabin. Hell broke lose and the plane had to return. For shree lankanaites delays do not matter. They wear watches only as a showpiece.
