Sri Lankan stabbed to death in Israel

A Sri Lankan man working in Israel has been tragically killed in a stabbing incident. The victim has been identified as K.K. Tharindu Shanaka, 38, a father of two from Batapola, Kondagala in Galle, who had arrived in Israel in September 2025 to work as a carpenter in the construction sector.

Officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel met with police at the Salameh Police Station in Tel Aviv to discuss the ongoing investigation. Two Sri Lankan nationals who were reportedly with Shanaka at the time of the incident were also questioned by Israeli authorities.

According to witness accounts, 13 Sri Lankans were residing in a nearby shelter. On Wednesday night around 11 p.m., Shanaka and another individual were reportedly consuming alcohol in a nearby park. A confrontation is said to have occurred when Shanaka went to a corner of the park to urinate. His companion, after hearing a disturbance, alerted others in the shelter, who later discovered Shanaka with his throat slit.

Israeli police have taken a suspect into custody. The identity of the suspect has not been released pending the ongoing investigation.
