Sri Lankan envoy in Kenya joins Uganda’s ICC Trophy Tour for 2023 World Cup

Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Kenya, Kana Kananathan was honored with a distinguished guest invitation from Michael Nuwagaba, Chairman of the Uganda Cricket Association, at the launch of the ICC Trophy Tour for the highly anticipated 2023 Cricket World Cup.

The occasion, marked by grandeur and enthusiasm has exceeded expectations, captivating hearts and minds as it embarks on a journey encompassing a diverse range of nations.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Trophy Tour serves as a global conduit to the coveted silverware, paving the way for the momentous tournament scheduled in India from October 5 to November 19.

With a goal to inspire over one billion cricket enthusiasts worldwide, this event has become a beacon of unity for cricket communities spanning the globe.

The launch event, held with great pomp and fervor, symbolizes the resurgence of the cricketing spirit following the tumultuous times brought about by the global pandemic. An air of excitement resonated throughout the gathering as representatives from cricketing communities, sports enthusiasts and dignitaries came together to celebrate the upcoming global extravaganza.

Addressing the attendees, High Commissioner Kana Kananathan remarked, "This event stands as a testament to the shared values that unite nations and the potential of sports to transcend boundaries. High Commissioner Kananathan's symbolic participation in the Trophy Tour celebration in Kampala underscores the international significance of the event and the unifying power of cricket.

Africa, often referred to as the heart of cricket's untapped potential, takes center stage in this year's Trophy Tour. Uganda, alongside Nigeria and South Africa, has been chosen among the select few African nations to host this prestigious event.  

Michael Nuwagaba, Chairman of the Cricket Association of Uganda, emphasized that the High Commissioner's presence at this landmark event reaffirms the global importance of cricket as a unifying force that transcends political and geographical boundaries.
